My wife still can't walk on her ankle. She's basically been on the couch for almost 2 weeks now. I guess it's giving her hemorrhoids as well. Because now she's bleeding out of her ass daily

Can't these companies just move to India all together so that we get rid of them.
Re: My activities for the month of stardate 20089 are/is
Well I can't take it anymore. I think I'll be putting my two weeks notice any day now. Just not sure when it'll snap. Thoughts from anyone? Market is incredibly bad shape right now. Not sure when I could find another job. The only hope is me working on some kind of small projects/ startup that maybe can bring in money. I'm basically walking away from $170k+ salary. The most I've ever made and for the stupidest freaking job. But I can't stomach the thought of showing up there every dang day.

Can't you become querulant at the current job instead, while you are seeking a new job. Also since you at home office, you can basically "be"at the meetings doing real work while listening to all the idiots. Get wireless headphones and walk around doing other stuff while in the meetings.Smucky wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 1:58 am Well I can't take it anymore. That is typically how I roll. But this place is different. I applied to a senior software developer role. Once I was onboard, they told me my main job would be "support". That is because there is a 25 year veteran on the team that is retiring next month. That is how I got the job. They literally think that they can just swap us out. The details are in viewtopic.php?p=3902#p3902 That's on top of the 7am daily hour long meetings. At the end of the shift, I have to make a "turnover" email which describes any new tickets or events. I just find everything so freaking annoying. Especially since I am watching the actual new hire software dev spend 3 months trying to figure out why an ajax route always returns 500 when he never looked at the logs. It is driving me absolutely mad.NinjaPoodle wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:16 amCan't you become querulant at the current job instead, while you are seeking a new job. That's a classic, they overshoot the competence, get a Ph.D. to do menial tasks. Mind you if I ask, the one you're replacing, what background does he have? I bet he's less educated and therefore accepts a "customer" support job. To me it makes no sense to put a SW developer on IT support because that's something you can do for less money.Smucky wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 12:23 amThat is typically how I roll. I don't know. He has been there for 25 years. He says he doesn't so Christmas, he does Hanukkah. He is also from the Ukraine.NinjaPoodle wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 1:15 pm

I don't really know anything about European history, but a quick google search for "jews in ukraine" shows there was a large migration of them in the early 90's. I guess he came in with that.

He is pretty cool mostly. But he has been getting mad at me because when I do that support role, I ignore most of the emails. The way the company works, there is an "announcements" mailing list. There was one for a server reboot that I ignored. Apparently I was supposed to take the host name and dig randomly through our giant wiki and find what services were running on that server that me might depend on and then forward that email along with my findings to a different mailing list if there was any impact. Which there wasn't... but even he had to go dig first. Also we got an email for an nfs volume over 85%. I ignored that one too. Apparently, even thought there are like 1000's of these, I was supposed to go investigate where it was mounted and figure out if it could be cleaned up

So annoying, yet so conflicting due to the high salary. They could have hired two or three people for cheap and they would be been fine with this work.

Off work for today due to the Carter national day of mourning or whatever. Going to do a bunch of react native stuff. Also had an interview with the people behind jpay.com. Well a phone screen. They said they only got like 30 applicants and selected three to phone. Seems odd. Pays $130k. I'll take it.

Man, got a rejection letter. How is it that they selected three people and I get booted after an HR phone screen?Smucky wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 8:52 pm Off work for today due to the Carter national day of mourning or whatever. I can't remember all the details that I've shared, but for three months now, a different new hire on the "dev team" has been unable to fix a few things in a python flask app. It's really just a few hours of stuff, but maybe add training for the weird deployment system, etc, maybe one week tops.

The main manager finally snapped today and forced the whole team onto a meeting so we could "watch him code", she is determined to fix it herself. The main issue now is since this is a python project it uses some new deploy tools, no one on the team seems to realize that. The main entry script fails to execute within apache (syntax errors or missing modules, etc). I had the guy do a "git diff" just so we could see any changes that he made. This is a copy from dev that was working a few weeks ago atleast.
The diff seemed to really confuse my manager:

And yes, thats nearly a 2.5 hour meeting from 3:30 to nearly 6pm. The last 30 minutes was her noticing some red errors in his Vscode terminal session so she started obsessing over that, asking why there's errors there, "maybe that is the problem", etc. Then someone noticed the path names in the terminal were "windows style" and they were all trying to figure out how he had "windows style" path "in unix" etc.

pretty painful. I really want to leave.

Then you should leave but you should another job fixed first. It seems to be a pain to work there. Companies are today infiltrated which also means that the wrong guy for the wrong type of work is used heavily.
Re: My activities for the month of stardate 20089 are/is
You mean get hired somewhere else first? Not sure if it's even possible. I've been sending a steady stream of resumes out since August and I've only had two companies get back with me.NinjaPoodle wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 11:45 am Then you should leave but you should another job fixed first.

Why don't the companies move to India if find them so enormously useful, also it's probably lower taxes there.

Cool set a new record today: 7.5 hours in meetings.

Re: My activities for the month of stardate 20089 are/is
I recorded all of it too. Want to watch? Maybe an audio only version for your podcasting needs?
