Hmm, looking at a different package that is out for delivery today and it has the same "4:28 am Departed USPS Regional Facility" event but it arrived at my local post office an hour later. So my clock parts might have been batched up with that one and not scanned in perhaps, meaning it would be "out for delivery". Or maybe just lost hmm

You know if you want to know the time you can just glance at your mobile phone. It gets the time from the cell station so it is always accurate.

Well hopefully the new clock guts come in the mail tomorrow. I'll try to convert a clock over during the late evening after all my weekend farm duties are done. But since I can't do anything tonight, spent some time pondering about power. I thought for fun, I could just solder two AA batteries in parallel. That should allow the clock to run for two+ years. But thinking more, I got curious about C and D batteries. The math shows a C should run it for at least 4 years. And a D might actually make it 10 years. Honestly quite shocking. Makes me wonder why no wall clocks allow usage of C or D batteries. Of course the reason is, it is pointless since in most cases you are pulling the clock off the wall twice a year for daylight savings. I'm a rebel and I don't follow DST in my state. I just allow the entire world to shift their time around me. But anyway, setting your clock for DST is the perfect time to change the batteries. But if you don't ever have to touch your clock, because it is always right, messing with batteries becomes a pointless task.

I've waffled a bit on whether to try to shove two C's or one D under the face. I think I'll go with one C. Worst case, I'll be changing the battery every 4 years. But it is possible it might make it to 5 or 5.5. There are several things I try to do at 5 year intervals. Like change the air filter, fuel filters, and antifreeze on all my vehicles. Problem is, kind of hard to keep track of when the last 5 year interval was. So if all my clocks suddenly die after 4 or 5 years, I think that will work as a good reminder to make that year a "spring cleaning" jubilee. Maybe I could schedule other stuff around a 5 year battery life. Colonoscopies, pap smears, dentist, etc.

Didn't even mess with clock stuff today. Or even think about it really. Funny how that is the only thing on my mind during the work hours of the week. Come the weekend and it is nowhere on my mind. In fact, messing with clock guts seems kind of stupid

Hmm, what I figured. I bought what was branded "Quartex", which was a German brand from the 90's and early 2000's. But the guts are "Sheng Bang" all inside.

For the normal usage, the movement is held to the face with a nut.

But for cheap wall clocks, the face is just paper. So you are going to need to grind off the old mounting tabs and then glue on the new movement.

Except the shaft of the new movement is much longer and would go in too far and touch the back of the face from the inside. So I had to cut some wood shims from paint mixing sticks and glue those first.

That gave me just barely enough clearance.

But now the movement sticks out the back side so the clock won't sit flush on the wall

But it is working and I managed to get everything aligned to the face so it is accurate to the second. For the other three clocks left, they are thicker, 2" vs 1.75" so I might be able to avoid the movement sticking out the back

Hmm, just realized instead of gluing wood shims all over the back and then gluing the movement to that, I could just glue a piece over the hole. Then make the correct sized hole through that, then I will actually be able to hold the movement to the face with the provided nut. Why didn't you guys catch this, are you that dense too?
